NEW DELHI — The Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR) has thrown open 100 Assistant Section Officer (ASO) positions exclusively for non-recommended candidates of the UPSC Civil Services Examination 2024, with online registration opening on June 23, 2026 and closing at 5:00 PM on July 13, 2026.SSC
Released under Advertisement No. E-I/RC/2026/2, the drive is notable because applicants do not face a fresh written exam — selection rests on marks already earned in CSE-2024, paired with a qualifying computer test. That makes it a rare second chance for thousands who cleared UPSC stages but missed the final cut.
Who Can Apply
Eligibility is tightly drawn. Only candidates holding a university degree who appear as non-recommended in the CSE-2024 list on the UPSC Pratibha Setu Portal may apply. Those outside this pool are advised not to register. The upper age limit is 33 years as on the closing date, with relaxations of five years for SC/ST, three years for OBC (NCL), and up to 15 years for certain PwBD categories.Sarkari Result News

Category-wise, the split is 38 UR, 13 SC, 8 ST, 29 OBC (NCL) and 12 EWS. Seven posts — including two backlog vacancies — are reserved for Persons with Benchmark Disability. Candidates will be shortlisted at roughly a 1:5 ratio per category based on combined Mains and Personality Test marks from CSE-2024. The shortlisted lot must clear a one-hour, 100-mark Computer Proficiency Test (CPT) covering word processing, spreadsheets and slide preparation. The CPT is purely qualifying, with cut-offs ranging from 40% for UR down to 30% for all PwBD categories. A single merit list decides cadre allocation, factoring in candidate preference.AEE Recruitment

Applications are accepted only online via the CSIR portal, with payment routed through SBI Collect. Candidates must register using their UPSC roll number, email and mobile, then complete a six-tab form and upload scanned documents including CSE-2024 mark sheets before final submission.
